This time of the year might be about eating copious amounts of food and reuniting with your family, but it's one of the busiest times for the film industry. All studios battle for the top position at the box office, as more people head to the cinemas on their free time.

In the latest news, it looks like Will Ferrell's “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues” did not manage to knock “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” off the number one position in the box office during the pre-Christmas weekend.

The figures show that “The Hobbit 2” managed an estimated $31.5 million (€23 million) while “Anchorman 2” only managed $ 26.8 million (€19.5 million).

On third place came in the animated “Frozen,” followed by the con drama “American Hustle” on fourth. The top is continued by “Saving Mr. Banks” which is fairing modestly at the moment, but producers are hoping for larger ratings next weekend.
