So says the director of the future title

The Gears of War franchise is one of the most popular recent series of video games out there. It drew a huge number of fans when it was first released onto the Xbox 360 and has recently seen huge sales for its sequel, which shifted over 4 million units worldwide, after just a few months since its release, before the holiday season.

For a little while now, it seemed that Hollywood would welcome the series of titles with open arms and turn it into a very successful movie franchise, but nothing has been revealed about the project for quite some time. That is, until now, as the director and co-writer of the movie, Len Wiseman, who was also responsible for the Underworld series, decided to reveal some very interesting things about the development of the movie and how it would be part of a trilogy, much like the video games.

“I’m writing Gears Of War with Chris Morgan, who wrote Wanted,” said Wiseman, who then revealed that he found out about the game on the set of Live Free or Die Hard. ““I suck at video games, it just takes me too long and I can’t get the coordination of ‘em. I had to choose some video game for the background in a scene with Kevin Smith. I was shown about a dozen games and told to ‘Choose one to be in the background’ and I said ‘this one looks really, really cool whatever it is,’ and it was Gears Of War. I just really connected with it; the design of it, the world, the whole thing. So I actually brought an Xbox 360 to start researching what it was.”

Wiseman then revealed that the movie would develop more on the sci-fi part of the game, as it was set on a planet similar to Earth, in a future where aliens have invaded it and are trying to wipe out any trace of the humans left on it. “It’s going to be much more [on the] science fiction side of it than the creature side of it. I’ve always been much more of a sci-fi action fan than a horror fan. The hope is that [we want] to do three movies and really cover the bases on everything. Basically a harder edged Lord Of The Rings.”

The Hollywood director declined to comment on the rumor that the movies would be 3D but said that technology could really help the movie industry these days, and he would use it if it made the development of the movie run more smoothly.

So there you have, it seems that the director is very eager about the project, but let's not forget that the script and screenplay are developed right now, so it might be a while before we can go and see it in movie theaters; until then we can enjoy the video games.
