Purple or green? It's not a fashion statement question, it's a question mark raised by a fourteen old over our future. Claire Rammelkamp is the Google Logo Contest winner and had a rather gloomy overview of the way things will develop.

Take a look at the picture on the right if you want to find out what I'm talking about. There are two variants of the days to come and of the earth: one of a planet destroyed as a result of global warming, pollution and/or war and one green and well alive, powered by natural energy (Aeolian was her first choice). I'm not sure about you but all of a sudden I'm much more of a green fan than I am of purple. The two "o" letters in the logo are drawn as the alternative 'futures' and the "l" is in fact a question mark.

If you glanced at it, you understood by now why this drawing is the winner so nothing more about it but more on the level of awareness in the youth of today is to follow. Guess what? Claire wasn't the only one to submit a drawing that emphasizes the imminent dangers of our current ways. Some of the kids actually took an earth destroyed by global warming as a given. Such is the case of Maeve Maurry who pondered about where humanity might escape to in order to continue existing. Al Gore's documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" struck big time with the young who seem to be more aware of the danger we pose to ourselves than the previous generations that seem to take it all for granted.

But hey! I heard the other day a line that blew my mind regarding this aspect. "I didn't ruin the Earth, it was this way when I got here!" What was the answer to such a reaction? An empty glare was mine. What else could I have done?
