We don't know when

Star Wars is back in grand fashion. And the reason is not the animated feature film which debuted to less than positive reviews or the animated series which is set to launch this fall. The big reason for excitement amongst Star Wars fans is a video game, The Force Unleashed, which managed to sell well and even spawn talk of a movie adaptation.

Now LucaArts is sending the midichlorian count of some people through the roof by announcing that it plans to create downloadable content for the Xbox 360 and for the PlayStation 3 version of the game.

The first piece of DLC which will be made available is one with a variety of costumes and character models which can then be used to play through the game. New characters which will be playable will include Jedi knight Luke Skywalker, master Obi-Wan Kenobi and two members of the Jedi Council, called Ki-Adi-Mundi and Kit Fisto. There's also the possibility to see Darth Vader himself rampaging through the various levels of the game.

LucasArts is also thinking of adding some real meat to the bones of the game by creating and releasing a new level. The company is saying that it will be set on Coruscant, which is the capital of the Galactic Empire. The level will consist of the ruins of the once mighty Jedi Temple, which was destroyed, and the character you control will scour the ruins in order to find out more about his father and about himself. The level is said to add new information to the back story of the game.

There's no timeline for the release of these pieces of DLC but LucasArts says that launch dates and prices will be announced in due time. There will also be Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 themes and gamer picks released for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed on Xbox Live Marketplace and on the PlayStation Network.
