The PRP music news site has got hold of some vital Guitar Hero III information. No, the game won't be played with Jimmy's original guitar; you'll be using a plastic guitar just like before. However, the first rock band to be featured in the music game for the PS3 and Wii has been confirmed: Queens of the Stone Age. The same band will be featuring songs from their first album, Era Vulgaris, in another Activision published music game - Rock Band.

Guitar Hero III will have both cooperative and competitive online modes, as well as wireless guitar controllers (it was about time wouldn't you say?) and while the publishing is still Activision's job for the Guitar Hero series, development on Guitar Hero III has been carried out by Neversoft Entertainment, who has recently acquired the franchise.

So, Queens of the Stone Age are the first confirmed band to have their music in Guitar Hero 3. Songs from their upcoming new album, Era Vulgaris are also set to be featured in Madden NFL 08. Now, even though this is pretty much all that's been confirmed for the latest GH installment, Kotaku points out that Queens of the Stone Age also joins artists such as the Allman Brothers, Joan Jett, Kansas, Nirvana and Wolfmother in Rock Band.

As both music games are set for a fall release this year, there will be more details on the two shortly, so get some Queens of the Stone songs and start practicing.
