HTC prepares for a big unveiling in London

HTC Dream, rumored to be the first mobile device based on Google's Android mobile platform, could be unveiled sooner than anyone expected: on the 6th of May.

HTC is preparing what seems to be a big launch for this day, in London. Some sort of invitations surfaced on the Web these days, on which we can read "Witness the next wave of HTC innovation", together with the place and the date mentioned above. Sure, this doesn't mean, at all, that the Android Dream will indeed see the light of the day under the (usually rainy) skies of London. But many mobile users are hoping for it, that's for sure.

Although the Android SDK (software development kit) is available for some time now, there's no mobile device yet to run on Google's OS. Moreover, according to the initial estimations of Google, the first device of this kind will only be available in the second half of 2008 - which kind of blows away the hopes of those waiting the Dream to come on the 6th of May.

But if it won't be the Android-based handset to be presented, another high-end HTC will surely be, which is still a pretty good thing. Anyway, until the 6th of May (or until some leaked info deciphers the mystery), we can... dream that the Dream is the handset planned to be presented on that day.

As for the features HTC Dream will bring, we haven't got too many details. We know that it will be a touchscreen phone with (probably) a QWERTY keyboard, and that's about all.

However, the Dream has lots of chances to be a very nice device, as HTC has a solid line-up of products, including two of the best Pocket PCs ever made, namely HTC TyTN and HTC TyTN II. The Taiwanese company is also the manufacturer that actually made the hardware part of the expected Sony Ericsson Xperia X1, which says a lot about its capabilities when it comes to making high-end devices.

Awaiting for the 6th of May to come faster, be it with the Dream or another non-Android HTC handset, what's left to say is that we're hoping the invitation which led to all these rumors is a real one and the event will actually take place.
