Ever since it first hit the screen in 1973, “The Exorcist” has constantly been described as officially the scariest movie of all times by movie critics. Even those who disagree that it’s the scariest agree that it ranks up there with the most terrifying instances of modern cinema. For all these critics and for fans alike, the good news is that a small-screen version is in the making, as ContactMusic informs.

Unfortunately, more details on this have not yet been made available but, from what is known so far, fans can rejoice at the thought that “The Exorcist” will be a mini-series. Another unknown in the equation is whether the TV production will take the exact story and only dwell in more details on it, or it will also include subplots to justify the extra screen time.

“Horror classic ‘The Exorcist’ is coming back to possess a new audience – it’s to be remade into a new TV mini-series. The 1973 film, about a young girl who is possessed by a demon, was directed by William Friedkin and based on William Blatty’s book of the same name. Now, 36 years after the movie’s release, the author reveals a small screen version is in the works – and Friedkin has agreed to take charge. Blatty refuses to go into further detail, but tells horror film magazine Cemetery Dance, ‘Billy Friedkin has agreed to direct’,” ContactMusic says.

Come to think of it, it’s no wonder that someone has chosen to invest in a remake of this film. The original, as fans must know, scored 10 Oscar nominations upon release, of which it took home two statuettes, one for Best Sound and one for Best Adapted Screenplay. As it is, it’s redundant to say that it stands to make a lot of money if it can be brought up to attention again, with some improvements here and there.

Plus, a remake further means the movie is also introduced to the younger segment, all those horror fans who, for one reason or another, have never seen the original. However, until more on this is revealed, we have only confirmation that the remake is happening – so make sure you keep an eye on this space for further details.
