The Evil Within, the upcoming survival horror experience from developer Tango Gameworks and publisher Bethesda, has just received some more details about its PC version, this time confirming that its framerate is locked at 30fps, due to design reasons, but that players can tweak it via console commands.

The Evil Within is one of the most anticipated survival horror games of the year, as it arrives from the mind of Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami, as well as from his team at Japanese studio Tango Gameworks.

After confirming quite a lot of technical details about the game, while showcasing different videos in recent weeks, Bethesda has now offered some more info about specific PC-related aspects of the new title.

The locked 30fps framerate is due to design reasons

First up, Bethesda has mentioned on its forums that the framerate is locked at 30fps while the aspect ratio is 2.35:1 on all platforms due to design reasons. However, in order to please those who want to tweak the game, special commands that can be introduced via the console are going to be made available when the title launches.

"Shinji Mikami and the team at Tango designed The Evil Within to be played at 30fps and to utilize an aspect ratio of 2.35:1 for all platforms. The team has worked the last four years perfecting the game experience with these settings in mind," the publisher explains.

"For PC players, we’ll provide debug commands on how you can alter the framerate and aspect ratio, but these commands and changes are not recommended or supported and we suggest everyone play the game as it was designed and intended for the best experience."

The Evil Within supports other aspect ratios, 4K resolution, and more on PC

The two companies have also made sure that the PC version of The Evil Within supports plenty of other features and options, from a different aspect ratio than the intended 2.35:1 to 4K resolution for those who have compatible monitors and video cards. What's more, other options include anti-aliasing techniques (FXAA, MLAA, or SMAA), shadow quality, motion blur, SSAO, or Reflections.

The aforementioned console will also support different commands that deal with camera controls, gameplay cheats, and more, besides the modification of the framerate.

The Evil Within launches next week on October 14 worldwide, across the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One platforms. Expect to hear more about the PC version and how it can be tweaked by users in the following days.
