It's unclear how many players are affected

The development team at ZeniMax Online and publisher Bethesda are announcing that they are aware of the problems that are affecting the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 versions of The Elder Scrolls Online and are working to fix them as quickly as possible.

The home console installments for the title were introduced all over the world when the date changed to June 9, and initially, the MMO seemed to run well.

Since then, a number of players have been posting about problems with the login screen and the fact that they are unable to access the gameplay.

The same issue was not present on the PC when the game was first introduced.

The official Twitter account for The Elder Scrolls Online claims that the two companies are aware of the problem, although no cause is mentioned, and that a solution will be introduced as soon as possible.

Bethesda is not saying how many gamers are affected at the moment and whether a fix will impose an actual update, which might need time to get through certification at Microsoft and Sony, or if only a tweak linked to the servers is required.

ZeniMax and Bethesda need to move fast to deal with the problem because initial player goodwill is crucial to the success of a game like The Elder Scrolls Online.

Free-to-play is a requirement for all modern MMOs

The involved companies are saying that they plan to deliver both updates and new content drops for The Elder Scrolls Online on the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One as soon as they are introduced on the PC.

Since the MMO has moved to the free-to-play model, it seems to have gained stability, with gamers able to see what Tamriel has to offer for free while getting a range of cosmetic and convenience items to pick up in a new store.

The Elder Scrolls Online might have been designed as a way to capture the attention of the millions of players who loved Skyrim, but it has become a very different experience.

Bethesda has recently announced that it is working on Fallout 4, so a new Elder Scrolls single-player experience is probably a few days away.
