The Elder Scrolls games have established a tradition of allowing their players to occupy positions of power and authority, and it seems that The Elder Scrolls Online will be no different.

In the war over Cyrodiil, players of the upcoming massively multiplayer online role-playing game will be able to be crowned Emperor, gaining some nice buffs and a powerful set of armor, but also drawing the animosity of players of opposing factions.

Reaching the status of Emperor will depend entirely upon earning Alliance Points in PvP combat. The tokens will be granted for slaying foes, healing allies in battle, gathering experience points from capturing key landmarks that bestow bonuses on all allies within a territory and much more.

Once an alliance gains full control of all the keeps surrounding the Imperial City, the strongest member of the winning faction (the member with the most Alliance Points) will be crowned Emperor.

The title will give all the Emperor's followers a set of stat bonuses, and the Emperor himself will have access to a whole new skill line that they get to keep “throughout the rest of their lives in The Elder Scrolls Online,” as stated in an interview with OXM.

“It won't be easy to become Emperor, but we think people will be glad they worked for it," game director Paul Sage shared. Losing the title will diminish the bonuses received, but the former Emperor will still be a force to be reckoned with.

There does not seem to be any way to become Emperor without engaging in combat at every opportunity for now, so seekers of a more diplomatic route should stay tuned for further information regarding the matter.

The Elder Scrolls Online is expected to launch on April 4, 2014, for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox platforms.
