The Google Webmaster Tools are a suite of web-based applications managed from a single control panel. They allow you to check your website visibility for Google search engine, identify potential problems of site navigation system, improve your Google search rankings and more.

In order to be able to use these tools, you must have a valid Google account. After you login, on dashboard you must add the site that you need to analyze. Then clicking on it you will see an overview that presents your site status regarding Google indexing actions: the date of the last visit of the Googlebot and if your web site pages are included in Google index. It is very important to setup the management of site verifications from Tools menu, by selecting the most convenient method offered.

Also, from the Tools menu you can check the status of Google crawl rate (for a common small or medium website it should be set to normal), analyze robots.txt, remove certain URL from Google index and more. After your site is verified, then you can see diagnostics and other reports. The most important for SEO (search engine optimization) and the improvement of search engine visibility are statistics and links. The statistics tools will allow you to see the top search queries, your Google page ranks, anchor text in the external links, number and nature of incoming links, the pages from your website indexed by Google and more.

You can use these reports individually or combined in order to optimize your search engine visibility. For example you can analyse the top search queries and depending on the key phrase structure, you should modify accordingly the anchor text from incoming links situated in a link directory. Of course, the site content can be modified also based on top search query reports. From links menu you will discover the number of incoming links and internal links and their origin. It is recommended also to provide a sitemap in order to increase the understanding of your site navigation structure. By combining and interpreting these reports in an adequate manner you will improve your site performance and visibility for Google search engine by making the appropriate site modifications.
