Atom-powered

Each passing day seems to bring us one more piece of news about one of ASUS' netbooks from its vast series of Eee PCs. If you haven't grown tired yet of the extensive amount of information available on the company's Eee family, we're more than happy to report that Eee PC 900A has finally gone official, after much anticipation and speculations.

On the downside, there is not that much to say about the new product, which unfortunately provides just one major difference from the Eee PC 900. Unlike the latter, the A model is powered by the highly mediated Intel Atom processor, running at the same 1.6GHz as all the other Atom-powered netbooks currently available on the market. Other than that, the Eee PC 900A is pretty much the same like its Celeron-powered counterpart.

There is, however another slight difference between the 900 and the 900A Eee PCs. Unlike the Celeron-enabled netbook, the Eee PC 900A will provide its users with one more color option, namely purple. This option is new on the entire Eee PC lineup and will probably appeal to all those female Eee PC users out there. Unfortunately, at this time, there are no official details regarding pricing and availability, but the German retailer ComTech is accepting preorders for the computer, which it listed for 299 Euros, or about $445 US.

Taking a look at the specifications of the Eee PC 900A, we see it will offer its users no more than 1GB of RAM memory, while storage can go as high as 16GB, with an extra 20GB of free online storage. As far as connectivity goes, the Eee PC 900A provides an SD card slot, 3 USB ports, a VGA output, 802.11b/g and Ethernet. There's also a 0.3 MP web camera, built-in microphone and speakers, all packed in a netbook that weighs approximately 1 KG. Equipped with a 4-cell battery, the netbook offers its users a maximum of 3 to 4 hours of usage.
