Researchers in Finland claim that, as peculiar as this may sound, there is a link between how early kids utter their first words and how likely they are to take up drinking once they become teenagers.

The specialists say that, after surveying 5,457 pairs of twins, they found that the twin who started talking and reading first was almost always the one who also took up drinking first.

Otherwise put, advanced verbal skills in children were found to be a reliable indicator of problem behaviors during their teen years.

“Children with advanced language skills also drank more often, and became more intoxicated when they drank. And they were more likely to report a 'sensation seeking' personality trait,” the researchers wrote in their paper, Live Science tells us.

“The finding of these studies were partly surprising to us,” specialist Antti Latvala commented on the outcome of this survey.
