Still in beta stage, the driver promises a lot

ATI works on the development of a new driver that will boost the dual core systems performance, The Inquirer says. It is not exactly known if this is about the 5.12 driver that is awaited by the end of this week, or it is about the 6.1 driver that will be launched next year. Though, it seems that ATI is rushing to make it available for the holidays.

Although they need to prove it, ATI representatives claim that the new driver will boost the dual core system performances by 10%, up to 20%. A beta version is awaited soon.

ATI also readies another driver for the beta version of Microsoft's future operating system (OS), Windows Vista OS. But as the Redmond giant canceled the launch of Vista beta 2 revision, ATI is now in a rather difficult situation.

The drivers for ATI's Avivo architecture should be available as a limited beta for the company's close partners and producers. But, as always, they could leak on the Internet and be available also for the public.

Meanwhile, ATI showcased to its partners a laptop featuring a Mobility X800XT board in CrossFire mode, in a MXM module, which is set to be ATI's mobile CrossFire solution.
