When the nominations for the Academy Awards 2009 were made public, it became clear that, despite the wishes of diehard fans and regardless of the eight nods, “The Dark Knight” had clearly been snubbed at this year’s edition. The reason for this, nay-sayers believe, is because it’s a film that made a lot of money at the box-office. Producer Michael Uslan says fans should find at least some consolation in knowing that a sequel will be dropping in 2011.

Speaking with the Courier Post, Uslan has revealed something that director Christopher Nolan seemingly had no idea of, namely that fans of the caped crusader should be expecting a sequel to “The Dark Knight” sometime in 2011. Moreover, he has unveiled that this is the estimated timeframe when the third installment is due to be out in theaters, which, if true, could mean that the crew is now gearing up to start work on it.

However, this new statement concerning Batman should be taken with just a grain of salt. As several movie-oriented publications have pointed out, either Uslan actually knows something and just does not realize that he was not supposed to approach the topic of the sequel (which should mean that what he said was true), or he has just given voice to what all fans have been wanting to hear, without having any grounds for doing so (which would imply it’s all just wishful-thinking). The latter alternative is the most likely, especially since, not long ago, Nolan said that a sequel to “The Dark Knight” was “inexistent,” even if the idea was being thrown around.

Be that as it may, fans are still hoping that such a sequel turns out to be one of Hollywood’s worst kept secrets. Also, this is not the first time that someone involved in the project in one way or another hints at it. At the 2009 Golden Globes, Aaron Eckhart, who played Two-Face in “The Dark Knight,” told MTV News that his character might be making a comeback, despite the audiences believing him dead. “I think Harvey – if he’s not dead – is in a serious coma, and I’m not sure he’s coming out. They might pull the plug on him.” Eckhart said at the time.
