?At last

You guessed it - a new Macarena has risen from the ashes of easy, sequential arm and leg movements with a seldom jump here and there. It's the answer to all the critics who said that white men can't dance: they can and they are filmed by their kids for YouTube in order for the hysteria to be perpetuated.

It is called the Soulja Boy after the artist that came up with it or the Crank That dance (the track it is being danced to) or the Superman. It actually has a lot of names, among which Tony Hicks of Area.com mentioned "The New Dance For People Who Can't Dance." And it is invented by an African American. What were the odds of that happening?

Reports say that it is done anywhere, from Pop Warner football games to clubs and to athletic events like the open practice of the Golden State Warriors (NBA, Western Conference, Pacific Division) where veterans of the team forced the rookies to do it and when some couldn't (like Marco Belinelli from Italy), they rushed a couple of fans from the stands to lend a helping hand.

"Like most prefab dances related to one song, the Soulja Boy is a stroke of marketing genius. This time it comes from Atlanta-based Soulja Boy, a 17-year-old, mostly self-made pop/rap star. The song has a bare-bones steel drum melody line and thick bottom beat, with multi-vocal tracks shouting over each other," comments Hicks who also remarks that the song has topped the Billboards singles charts for seven straight weeks.

If you thought that Macarena or even Meneaito were too much to bear and were relieved when they stopped playing it you're in for a whole world of pain. Whole clubs waving their arms at the same time and kicking their feet in the same manner to the same beat are back and here to stay at least for a while. And that is a while too long if you ask me.
