Most movies released nowadays are filled with all sorts of sex and violent content, and some parents simply want to protect their kids against the possible influence that can be exerted by the respective scenes. And this is exactly the reason why the ClearPlay company has launched the CP-007 DVD player, a special type of device that uses patented filtering technology to smoothly and precisely skip and mute over unwanted content.

ClearPlay?s patented technology uses filters that are created specifically for each movie, allowing for frame-specific skips and mutes. According to the company, the filtering is barely noticeable, and the resulting playback is smooth and effective. Furthermore, ClearPlay offers filters for over 2200 top movies, and adds more every week when new DVD?s are released.

The other technical features of the DVD player from ClearPlay are not exactly very impressive, as this thing is nothing more than an ordinary DVD player, spec-wise. Thus, it supports a maximum output resolution of only 480p, which can be delivered to a compatible TV set via the Composite, Component and S-Video interfaces. Additionally, the player also sports digital/coaxial audio outputs, as well as a Dolby Digital decoder.

Furthermore, the device works with pretty much the same disc and file formats as any normal player, namely DVD, DVD+R, DVD+RW, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, HDCD, JPEG Picture CD, Kodak Picture CD, MP3, WMA, JPEG, MPEG. Moreover, it doesn't have a memory card reader but at least it's been equipped with an USB 2.0 connector.

"Consumers have responded very enthusiastically to the ClearPlay product. It makes movies a better experience for many families that are concerned about offensive content in their homes," said ClearPlay CEO Bill Aho.

It's pretty clear that removing the aforementioned scenes from a movie will seriously shorten the flick, not to mention that it will be rather difficult to understand the story when certain important dialogs are skipped over. However, those families who are really keen on keeping their kids away from profanity will probably spend 90 bucks on this thing, although it's quite debatable whether this will do much good or significantly affect the kids' behavior.
