As we reported in a previous article, Microsoft has showcased today two Ultra Mobile PC models, one from Samsung and the other from Asus.

Both of them run Windows XP Tablet PC Edition and have characteristics like mobile-tuned user interface features, such as touch pen and dedicated buttons, as well as keyboards for convenient access to Windows-based applications on-the-go.

Thanks to an Asus press release, we have for you the specifications of the R2H model, the first UMPC from the Taiwanese producer.

The device incorporates an impressive number of features, some of them being also announced by Microsoft.

The R2H model comes with a built-in high-resolution webcam, 1 spindle and a biometric security fingerprinter solution, giving users extra security. Asus mentions that the built-in fingerprinter detects live tissue under the outer skin that makes the authentication procedure less susceptible to superficial defects such as cuts and dirt as well as harder to counterfeit.

Aside from security, the R2H also offers superior transfer rates via the Bluetooth 2.0 EDR (Enhanced Data Rate) standard and simplified navigation through the built-in GPS modules, complemented by a retractable antenna.

To access the applications and content stored on the device's hard disk, users will have a stylus, which will be used together with Microsoft's Touch Pack software.

"The R2H Ultra Mobile PC (UMPC) platform, one of the first UMPCs to come to market, is a result of combining Intel's low power technology leadership with Asus' expertise in delivering innovative platform solutions. We are excited about working with Asus to enable the first generation of this exciting category - a PC companion that allow users to communicate, access information, be entertained and stay productive on the go," Mr. Mooly Eden, vice president and general manager of Intel's Mobile Platforms Group, declared.
