Beijing's inhabitants are worried about the effects air pollution might have both upon the enviroment and upon their health. In order to calm the spirits, officials decided to allow 40 individuals to tour the city's monitoring center, once a week.

As in any other developed country, a certain level of comfort triggers a massive amount of polluters. The Chinese public opinion claims that the government failed in drawing the proportions of this phenomenon, as the reports elaborated by the monitoring center appear to be hard to understand and process.

The monitoring center tries to eradicate the population's fear, but, at the same time, eco-groups warn that dangerous particles, smaller than 2.5 micrometers are one of the biggest threats, due to the fact that they aren't monitored by the center's staff.

The Chinese administration had to deal with the fact that the American Embassy has the ability to provide its exact measurements regarding the air pollution, displaying numbers which revealed higher levels of PM 2.5 in the atmosphere than the Chinese government wants to admit.

Celebrities joined forces with eco-groups, trying to make the government change its attitude and adopt stricter regulations which will reduce this phenomenon's severe impact.

Furthermore, they encourage the Chinese administration to uncover the real proportions of the issue. If the people knew what they are presently dealing with, they would certainly be more motivated to change their lifestyle and adopt a more eco-conscious attitude.

Recent polls highlight the population's great concerns regarding this topic. Apparently, the latest data published on Wednesday revealed that, out of 400,000 participants, 300,000 are eager to see new standards and regulations from the government, as most of them said they are aware that such a framework would need about a year to be fully implemented.

While dealing with the population's panic and frustrations, representatives from the Chinese government said they will support environmental measures meant increase the air quality, but so far a deadline for such a strategy hasn't been announced.
