As laptops emerge on the market and begin to conquer the desktops market share, manufacturers try to make them more attractive, just like Intel did with its fabric covered laptop.

Therefore, Asus has launched W1, a 15.4 inch wide screen laptop that features digital and analogue TV tuners. But he most impressive feature of the new W1 is the carbon finish, not just the lid, but all over.

Coming at ~2400 USD, the W1 carbon laptop measures 364 x 264 x 32 mm, and has a better EMI protection, meaning that the effects of the electronic radiation are significantly lowered because of the carbon.

The W1 laptop features an elegant design, with hidden hinges and a gap less touch pad. A symbol display is available that shows the number of the TV channel when watching TV, and a track number when watching DVD movie or listening to music. Also, the cover is held down by magnets.

The W1 carbon edition has a Intel Pentium M 740 processor and sports 1 GB of DDR2 Ram. The display is a 15.4 inch TFT one, with a 1680x1050 pixels resolution. The hard drive has a storage capacity of 100 GB, spinning at 5400 rpm. Graphics are assured by the ATI Mobility Radeon X700 with 128 Mb dedicated memory, while the optical unit is a DVD+/-RW drive. Connectivity has lots of options: V92 modem, Gigabit LAN, USB 2.0, Firewire, 802.11b/g Wi-fi and Bluetooth.
