The Binding of Isaac maker Edward McMillen has revealed that the game's remake, Rebirth, will get its first expansion sometime later this year.

The expansion, titled Afterbirth, will add a ton of new content to the game, which the developer says should extend the gameplay time by around 100 to 200 hours.

Afterbirth is coming with over 100 new items, a new game mode that will change the way The Binding of Isaac is played, 10 new challenges, a ton of new enemies and bosses, and a brand new playable character.

Furthermore, the expansion will add a new alternate final chapter to The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, as well as new floors, final bosses, and game endings.

There will be a lot of new achievements and rewards for managing to beat the game on hard, as well as new item pickups, cards, pills, and co-op babies.

In addition to this, McMillen has also stated that he will be trying to incorporate all the awesome challenges for the DLC that his game's fans have requested through Reddit, including high speed mode, weird challenge modes, items and stats rerolls after each room is completed, and an insane challenge mode where you have to fight all the bosses in the game.

A lot of exciting things in the future

In addition to this, in the latest post on the Binding of Isaac blog, the developer has also asked fans for feedback regarding the kinds of combos they would like to see make it into the upcoming DLC.

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is the remake of the 2011 indie hit roguelike, released on Steam in November last year, to stellar reviews.

The upcoming Afterbirth expansion will be delivered sometime later this year, with the developers' goal being to have it ship in mid-2015.

In addition to this, the game's two developer are also toying around with a new special update for owners of the original game (and the Wrath of the Lamb expansion), adding a hard mode to the game, featuring tons of new bosses and enemies, and presenting a bigger challenge for seasoned players.
