“If we can’t protect the Earth, we can be damn sure we’ll avenge it.”

After months of anticipation and hype, the first legit trailer for next year’s “The Avengers” is finally out. Imagine the biggest Marvel films ever released all rolled into one, and you probably know what to expect from it.

Everything is bigger in “The Avengers,” the trailer hints – otherwise, there’d be no excuse for having so many superheroes joining forces to save (or avenge, if all else fails) the world.

Loki, Thor’s brother turned evil, is about to destroy Earth because, we learn, we were born to be ruled, or something to that effect.

This is a strong enough threat to get Nick Fury to assemble his S.H.I.E.L.D special taskforce, comprised of the likes of Iron Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Thor himself and, last but not least, The Hulk. And then explosions ensue.

The trailer also includes some hints that the main characters will engage in expected but still entertaining bantering, some of Iron Man’s funny quips and plenty of clues that action scenes will probably make even Michael Bay green with envy, no offense to The Hulk.

Check it out. The film is out on May 4, 2012.
