The polemic was caused by Ian Smith

The Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation representatives are not too happy with Google Earth revealing details on the Australian nuclear reactor, and therefore they've demanded Google to censor them.

Satellite images of the White House have already been censored by Google, and the Australian officials have demanded the same procedure for the photographs from the Lucas Heights area, where Australia has its only nuclear reactor.

The polemic was caused by Ian Smith, director of the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation, who issued a press release in which he accuses Google of revealing too many details on the location.

In response, Google Australia officials said that the images used in Google Earth are publicly available and that they can be accessed from other sites as well; the company says that the photos are too old anyway to reveal relevant information.

The controversy has become important enough to convince other officials of the Australian government to get involved.

In this way, the spokeswoman of the General Prosecutor Philip Ruddock said that the images in question have been carefully analyzed by the security agencies, which have come to the conclusion that they are not revealing important information that could jeopardize the safety of the Australian nuclear reactor.
