The American Senate has started debating on changing the legislation regarding the deregularization of broadband connections, satellite transmissions and telephony services.

Republican Senator John Ensign has submitted a request in which he proposes the updating of the Telecommunication Law from 1996. When this law was approved, no one knew about the explosion of Internet connection means, wireless connections and broadband technologies from the last decade.

The Senator proposes a much more permissive approach to the new online services. For example, local governments have to allow free bidding processes to take place, which can also be attended by private companies. In the same time, companies, like Verizon Communications, which would like to offer video content, but has been repeatedly stalled by the strict regulations imposed by the local governments, will enjoy special conditions and terms easier to comply with.

Ensign's project says that neither the state's officials, nor the Federal Communications can impose prices and tariffs for the communication services. Moreover, it mentions that those companies that own an optic fiber network should not be forced to grant the competition access to it.
