14 DAY TRIAL // Activision and Beenox have confirmed that a video game based on The Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie will be released in spring of 2014 for all sorts of platforms, bringing new adventures and a variety of improvements over the original game, not to mention a much bigger open world.
Spider-Man games haven't exactly delivered the best of experiences over the years but the most recent Amazing Spider-Man did pique the interest of quite a few fans who found that the new adventures, based on the reimagined movie series, were quite good.
Now, in order to take advantage of the second Amazing Spider-Man movie, Activision and Beenox have revealed that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is going to debut next year, bringing all sorts of major improvements.
"We're giving gamers more abilities, more upgrades, more challenges, and more freedom to progress. And with the game launching alongside the new movie, offering an expanded interactive experience beyond the film, fans of the franchise won't want to miss playing it," said Thomas Wilson, co-studio head of Beenox.
In the new game, players will control Spider-Man as he explores a separate side-story inspired by the film but set in its own continuity. Besides meeting old friends and new foes, the plot will also put a focus on the man behind the mask, Peter Parker, who will have different quests that put his photojournalism skills to good use.
"As Spidey, players will be able to free-roam through a greatly-enhanced Manhattan cityscape, one set to offer livelier, more engaging opportunities with which to put his sensational skills to use. Spider-Man's personal brand of web-swinging and up-close-and-personal combat will see a variety of new features as well," Activision said in an official statement.
"Central to the expansive depth and detail being poured into The Amazing Spider-Man 2 video game is the new 'Hero or Menace' system, which incentivizes Super Hero behavior by rewarding the web-slinger's crime-fighting efforts, and adds consequences for letting criminality fester."
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 game will appear in spring for the PC, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and 3DS, not to mention the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One next-gen consoles.
