The non-Eee, Atom-powered notebook

Reports are coming in that ASUS has finally unveiled one of its highly anticipated notebook systems, the non-Eee N10 notebook. The Atom-powered portable system was announced in Korea during the “ASUS World 2008” event. Unfortunately, the company did not make available an official press release as well, which means that, at this point in time, the date when the notebook will debut in Europe and the United States is yet uncertain.

Despite the fact that we don’t have that many details to go on, some of the specifications unveiled come to confirm previous rumors that had it that the N10 would be powered by Intel's highly successful Atom processor. Expected to become available without the Eee brand, the N10 sports a 10.2-inch display, which is powered by a GeForce 9300GS graphics solution.

The GeForce chip is one of the most surprising features to be unveiled, and could confirm that the N10 will not be part of the company's vast Eee family of portable computers, despite being powered by the same Intel Atom N270 processor like most of the other netbooks in the company's production line. Another interesting feature is that the 10.2-inch display features backlight technology, which will certainly increase visual quality.

Besides the specifications just mentioned above, we also know, from previous leaked info, that the N10 will provide a fingerprint scanner, a 1.3 webcam and HDMI ports. The notebook will boast Altec Lansing speakers, and will support Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Given its technical specifications, it will probably ship with a Windows XP operating system, but that is yet to be confirmed by the company.

The notebook will become available on the Korean market later this month but, as already noted, a specific date for its European or US debut can’t be pinpointed as of now. One thing that is almost certain is that, when ASUS decides to introduce the N10 worldwide, it will most likely be priced higher than any other Eee PC out there.
