Drew Baird is a video professional who desperately needs a new Mac Pro. Apple has been reluctant to upgrade the machine for years, but this time around the company is planning “something really different,” a staffer reportedly told him.

The disclosure is made on the RedUser.net forum, where Baird writes, “For what it's worth – a couple of months ago I received a call from Douglas Brooks, Apples [sic] project manager for the new Mac Pro to address my concerns about the new machine.”

The Apple staffer didn’t give Baird any details, such as the technical specifications of the new Mac Pro, or its design.

Instead, Brooks asked the video buff what he wanted in terms of features, to which Baird replied, “expandability for extra graphics cards support, and memory expansion,” these two being at the top of his list, he said.

Brooks was then happy to inform the guy that Apple was indeed launching a new Mac Pro.

“You are going to be really glad that you waited [to buy a new tower]. We are doing something really different here and I think you're going to be very excited when you see what we've been up to. I can't wait to show this off,” said the Apple project manager for Mac Pro.

Baird says he’s confident he made the right choice to wait for Apple’s 2013 Mac Pro.

“I'm looking forward to the announcement. Hopefully the wait will be worth it,” he concludes.

There have been a lot of signs pointing to an imminent release of a Mac Pro refresh this year, including one email exchange between an Apple customer and the company’s CEO, Tim Cook.

“Our Pro customers like you are really important to us,” Cooks said in the respective email last year.

“Although we didn't have a chance to talk about a new Mac Pro at today's event, don't worry as we're working on something really great for later next year,” he added.
