14 DAY TRIAL // SmileOnMyMac has released a new installment of its abbreviation focused software application for Mac, TextExpander. Currently at version 2.5.1, TextExpander allows you to save keystrokes and to expand abbreviations to text and images.
As SmileOnMyMac puts it, TextExpander "listens to what you type and inserts user-defined snippets on the fly whenever you enter their corresponding abbreviations." Supporting dates, times, plain text, formatted text, cursor positioning, images and more, the utility software also helps you save countless hours on things you would otherwise type repeatedly.
Insert standard greetings and signatures, including formatted text and pictures, organize snippets into groups, add snippet groups from external files and online sources, or, if you want, add common typos to your snippet library – TextExpander does it all. You can assign special characters to be typed without having to launch a special characters palette, and, by organizing snippets into groups, it will be even easier to insert the current date and time (in any format you prefer), to ultimately sync them via MobileMe. For developers who need to invoke AppleScripts easily, Textexpander can offer editor-independent code templates.
Speaking of which, the latest version of the software adds the ability to paste AppleScript results in plain text so that they adopt the current formatting. Nested AppleScript snippets now function properly, says SmileOnMyMac, while snippet list now retains outline expansion and selection better (no more collapsing unexpectedly). Lastly, the developers were able to fix a hanging problem when TextExpander is used with PopChar X.
