Earlier this month, Theresa Roemer, a famous Texas millionaire, former beauty queen, and current entrepreneur, made headlines around the world when her mansion-sized closet, which housed only designer shoes, handbags, furs, and jewelry, was robbed.

Roemer told the press that she believed this to be an inside job because whoever broke in the house right on the night she forgot to set the alarm knew exactly where to go and what to take: this way, they made away with the most expensive items in the collection and several other items that had more of a sentimental value than a financial one.

However, among the valuable items taken, Roemer included 3 original Hermes Birkin bags, which she said were estimated at $60,000 (€44,947) a piece. The less valuable stuff included a lock of her dead son’s hair in a silver locket and jewelry passed down to her from her mother.

The Houston Press is reporting that one man claiming to be in possession of these items called in to say that they were all fake. Embedded below is a snippet of the conversation that took place between the Press’ reporter and the alleged robber, in which he is distinctly heard saying that “all” the things stolen from the closet are “fake.”

“The person did not provide a name and was allegedly calling from a burner phone with a 917 (New York City) area code,” the Press writes. “The alleged burglar claimed to have no relationship with Roemer and said he or she had only become aware of the closet through recent media reports. The person said he or she was not calling from Texas.”

The alleged robber also told the publication that Roemer knew where the stolen items were but was not necessarily interested in getting them back. No wonder, if they’re fake.

“I contacted Theresa Roemer and explained to her that her items were fake,” the robber explained. “I requested over half a million dollars [€374,405] to return her items and not expose her to the news. During the meet, it seemed as if she contacted authorities. The deal never went through. I'm following through with my threat.”

A police officer went to the Press to recover the items the alleged robber sent in by mail, to attest his fake claims.

In the video below, a segment that ran on GMA shortly before the burglary, Roemer is showing off her closet, which has 3 stories and a champagne bar and vanity room. She says the mini-house cost $700,000 (€524,340) to build and houses designer goods of upwards of $2 million (€1.49 million).
