Internet radio without PC "intervention"

Just then I thought the iPod dockers completely flooded the speaker market, I stumbled upon this tiny streamer: Noxon 2, well, an iPod docking solution with radio. It comes from Terratec, manufacturer of "clever gear" and it brings something you probably didn't expect: internet radio without the PC intervention.

Colored in silver white, the Noxon 2 music streamer boasts a top-mounted iPod dock, USB host port for connecting flash drives and external HDDs, optical audio output, headphone jack, FM tuner, built-in Ethernet and Wifi to boot. There's the somewhat colored screen that displays playlists, artists, albums, songs. As you were probably expecting, the dock charges your iPod as the latter is playing. One thing it won't do is display web pages (not even if you insist).

The thing supports OS X, Linux, Windows, 802.11 b/g, 802.3 (u), UpnP, WEP, WPA/WPA 2 and a variety of audio formats (MP3, M3U, PLS, OGG, AAC, WAV, and WMA).

The speakers contains a 3" 10 W subwoofer and a pair of 1.5" tweeters. There's also a headphone and line out sockets for connecting to a bigger amplifier. Terratec priced it at (cough) $473, so there's no reason for you to go hog wild. You'll also get 10,000 internet radio stations and the UpnP (Universal Plug and Play) to stream your music from a network attached hard-drive or from your PC using the USB port.

The only thing that bothers me is the name of the product. It looks like it's following some reverse marketing psychology rules. If you read it backwards, you still read Noxon. That's a double No with a x in the middle. Maybe that's where the middle woofers are hiding.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there.
