July release aims to put new faces to old characters

Paramount Pictures has released a new batch of character posters for its upcoming “Terminator: Genisys,” which is meant to reboot the “Terminator” franchise, and hopefully have a better reception with the critics and the fans than the 2009 “Salvation.”

One of the one-sheets released, included in the gallery below, confirms the spoiler shown in the latest trailer and official film poster: indeed, Paramount is giving away the twist at the end of the movie, namely that John Connor is now a Terminator himself.

In the film, John Connor from the future, leader of the Resistance and savior of humanity, sends pal / right hand Kylie Reese back in time to save his mother, Sarah Connor. He knows that Skynet has also sent Terminators back in time, to kill her and thus prevent his being born, which would allow the robots to do with Earth as it pleased their mechanical hearts.

John Connor was always the good guy, fighting a battle that’s almost impossible to win, so when fans spotted the spoiler in the trailer and then in the video, they were still hoping it was some kind of mistake.

Apparently, it’s not.

As for the rest of the posters, they feel underdone and underwhelming, generic and not outstanding in the least. It’s almost as if Paramount has stopped trying to make this movie appealing at this point, perhaps discouraged by the initial wave of harsh criticism.

“Terminator: Genisys” sees Arnold Schwarzenegger reprise his role as Terminator, and new additions Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese and Jason Clarke as John Connor / T-3000. Also pictured in the gallery is Byung-hun Lee as T-1000.

“Genisys” will be out on July 3.
