14 DAY TRIAL // Telus has just updated HTC Desire HD page on it website with new information regarding the next major software upgrade for the smartphone.
According to the Canadian carrier, upgrade to Android 2.3 Gingerbread is scheduled for “this summer.”
Unfortunately, Telus has yet to announce the exact release date of the upgrade, which is probably still pending trial tests from the carrier.
HTC Android smartphones with HTC Sense UI that are subject to software upgrades require the Taiwanese manufacturer to update its proprietary user interface before giving the update to carriers for approval.
Add to that the extensive tests that the network operator is carrying to make sure that the software update meets satisfactory results and we can see why various carriers receive the same upgrade several months apart from each other.
On related news, Europeans HTC Desire HD devices have received Gingebread almost two months ago, while Indians and Aussies got it several weeks ago.
As soon as Telus starts deploying the update, HTC Desire HD users should receive a notification on their phones to download and install it.
In addition to the bloatware (if any) included by the carrier, Android 2.3 should bring lots of enhancement, new features and bug fixes, such as enhancements to the user interface, new Android keyboard with easy copy/paste feature, improved Power Management, Internet Calling support, multiple camera Management.
The Desire HD was the first smartphone powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8255 1GHz processor, unlike previous HTC devices which embedded the QSD8250 1GHz CPU.
HTC Desire HD was delivered with Android 2.2 Froyo out-of-the-box and packs 1.5 GB of internal memory and 768 MB RAM.
Other highlights of the phone include 4.3-inch LCD capacitive touchscreen, 8-megapixel camera with autofocus and dual-LED flash, HSDPA 14.4 Mbps, HSUPA 5.76 Mbps and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity.
