Telltale Games is at the moment working with Gearbox on a new Tales from the Borderlands title and the studio believes that there are plenty of interesting stories to be told about the game’s universe and that it offers as much variety to fans as the much better known Star Wars.

Richard Iggo, a developer working on the title, tells Gamereactor.eu that his own team has impressed when their partners showed them the depth of the franchise and the kind of details that were introduced in the first two titles.

He states, “The ecology's there, the history's there, they've gone into an amazing amount of detail to create this world and you've just not really seen it in the games that they've created, and frankly, you've had no need to because the games that they've created, Borderlands and Borderlands 2, are so good at what they do; they're so good at the shoot 'n' loot mechanics, they're so good at multiplayer, and so you're not really concerned with that.”

Tales from the Borderlands is expected to be launched before the end of the year on a variety of platforms and the core gameplay will be similar to that seen in The Walking Dead or The Wolf Among Us.

The focus will be on the story elements and the team wants to make sure that players who explore the game will have a deeper understanding of the world they have already fought through in the shooter series.

Iggo also says that his team is using the fact that Tales from the Borderlands has two main characters to introduce a series of new game mechanics, and talks about an early sequence where lying and players’ choices will play a big role.

He explains, “You're creating these crazy, crazy stories, explaining to the stranger, this mysterious stranger, how you got to this point. But the truth of the matter is the stranger has actually got a pretty good idea of what really did happen, and when people find out who that character is, I think Borderlands fans, their minds will be blown.”

Telltale Games is also working on its two core series at the moment, The Wolf Among Us and The Walking Dead.

They are also collaborating with HBO to create an episodic title built around Game of Thrones, which will be offered at some point in 2015 and will explore events that were not part of the television show.
