TeleNav, Inc. and Sprint have announced at the CTIA Enterprise 2011 conference the availability of a new application and service for the wireless carrier's Android-based mobile phones, namely TeleNav GPS Navigator 7.1. The new application is meant to provide users with turn-by-turn directions so that they can easily go wherever they need, and also offers them with the possibility to explore and discover places around them.

TeleNav GPS Navigator 7.1 arrives on devices with a new homescreen that has been called “My Dashboard,” with fast access to what users need.

The application also comes with smoother and faster map rendering, and with improved features that include live traffic, red light cameras and more.

It also comes with Multi Routes, so that users will be provided with a number of up to three routes to the destination. Users will be able to have a look at info on each of them and select the one that fits their needs best.

TeleNav GPS Navigator 7.1 will also provide users with details on places they drive by, including roads and street names via “Cockpit View,” and more.

The application also enables customizations courtesy of various Android widgets it comes with, so that users will benefit from fast access to the information they need.

There are three TeleNav widgets available for download: a map of the current location, one-box search field, and navigation with Home and Work commute times.

“While other navigation apps tend to only focus on getting you from point A to point B, we believe there is tremendous value in a more personalized navigation experience that is tailored to your daily needs,” said Sal Dhanani, co-founder and vice president of products for TeleNav.

“From My Dashboard to widgets, car icons to Multi Routes, drivers are looking for a more personally relevant experience.”

TeleNav GPS Navigator 7.1 also comes with features like: Favorite and Recent Destinations, Daily Commute, Daily Commute, Local Search, Local Reviews, Local Weather, and more.

The app arrives on Sprint handsets running under Android 2.3 Gingerbread, including Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch and LG Marquee, as well as HTC EVO 3D, Kyocera Milano and Samsung Replenish, and will be available for Honeycomb tablets as well.

“TeleNav GPS Navigator 7.1 will be available later this month at no additional charge with Sprint's Everything Data and Simply Everything plans,” the company announced. However, those who would like to benefit from some of the premium options above will have to pay monthly fees for them.
