Starting with the next month, mobile phone users around Europe will be able to purchase the first smartphone in the world to arrive on shelves with a Tegra 4i chipset inside, and some info on the device’s pricing is now available.

The handset, called Wiko WAX and produced by French manufacturer Wiko, has already been confirmed to arrive on shelves in Italy in April, and it should be released in Germany and France as well soon after. Spain, Portugal, Belgium, and the UK will also receive it.

As mentioned above, this is the first handset in the world to be powered by Nvidia’s Tegra 4i chipset, which packs four Cortex-A9 cores that have been clocked at 1.7GHz each.

Moreover, the smartphone will arrive on the market with a graphics processor that features 60 cores, different from the GPU inside Tegra 4, which sports 72 cores, as GSMArena notes.

Info coming from Cellulari.it suggests that the upcoming Wiko WAX will be released with a price tag of only €200 ($275) attached to it. What remains to be seen, however, is whether the phone’s cost will differ from one market to another.

The upcoming handset won’t be very different from your regular Android-based smartphone, though the fact that it sports said Tegra 4i chip inside should make a difference.

Compared to previous Tegra chipsets, the new CPU comes with one major enhancement, namely built-in LTE connectivity. This is the first NVIDIA Tegra SoC to sport the capability, which marks a great milestone for the chip maker.

The specifications list of the new handset is not impressive at all, but it shows a well-built device that should prove a great option for users looking for a mid-range product that can still deliver appealing performance capabilities.

Wiko WAX lands on the market with a 4.7-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a 720p resolution and sports 1GB of RAM next to the aforementioned quad-core processor.

Moreover, it was unveiled with 4GB of internal memory, complemented by a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes, as well as with the usual set of connectivity capabilities and sensors.

On the back, the new device sports an 8-megapixel camera with support for recording videos in full HD resolution, complemented by a 5MP secondary camera for making video calls while on the go. The phone was unveiled with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

Wiko WAX was showcased at MWC 2014 in Barcelona, where we got the chance to play with it for a bit, and it left a pleasant impression on us. It sports a matte black back cover, offers good grip, and appears to be very snappy.
