A pair of British teens have dressed up as the Twin Towers hit during 9/11 for Halloween. Their costume was about as appropriate as that of a woman celebrating the event in an injured Boston Marathon victim costume.

"South Tower" and "North Tower" are 19 years old and they have been called out by The Sun newspaper for their "Towering Stupidity."

They are Amber Langford and Annie Collinge, students in Chester, England. They put on the outfits for a Halloween competition which they won, taking home £150 ($240).

The intricate costumes feature planes, people jumping out windows and debris hats adorned with a US flag. Langford's dad is a retired pilot and Collinge is studying criminology.

The terrorist attack on September 11, 2001, killed 3,000 people, including emergency workers pulling out the many victims.

"The idea was to depict a serious, modern-day horror that happened in our lifetime and was not intended as a joke," the teens have apologized, according to NBC.
