YouTube managed to surpass Facebook in terms of popularity

A GWI quarterly report regarding the popularity of social platforms shows that YouTube remains the crowned media source among teenagers after ten years in the business.

Although Facebook still holds the crown overall, it was the video-sharing website that got the largest number of votes from millennials.

The survey conducted by the market research study on the digital consumer shows that YouTube is still going strong among teenagers, despite rumors that it will soon be overrun by the ever-rising social networking giant.

And since Generation Y is the demographic that companies are particularly interested in, Facebook has all the reasons to be worried.

Although notably popular among the adult population, Facebook cannot really enjoy the bitter victory given that the numbers show a decrease in the number of youngsters using the platform.

Although the social media site has been in constant denial of the rumors floating around claiming that teenagers are fleeing towards other networks in order to shelter themselves from the older people invasion, the results of the study prove the contrary.

Facebook is trending among the senior

One of the main reasons why more and more teenagers leave Facebook is because they want to break away from the senior cohort who seems to have taken a liking of the social media platform and unreservedly dedicate their free time to embarrassing their younger relatives.

This is also what accounts for the fact that Instagram is the second trending social website used by the younger population, given that the average age of those on the Facebook-owned social networking service is comparatively smaller than that of its parent company.

The results of the study reinforce the idea that Facebook’s popularity will plummet in upcoming years due to its inability to entice younger users.

Researchers fear that the giant platform will have the same fate as others of its kind, say MySpace, which lasted for about eight years before sinking into oblivion.

Although probably not as complex as Facebook, YouTube still manages to bring together the benefits of a social platform allowing people to connect through the comment section and share content. It also provides users with a tool similar to Facebook’s News Feed, namely the homepage where they can get up-to-date info on what’s trending.
