Fans of MTV’s reality show “Teen Mom” must already be familiar with the name of Gary Shirley: he’s the father of Amber Portwood’s baby and the one who was beaten up on camera. He’s now decided to do something about the extra weight.

Shirley, whose personal life got about as much media attention as his television career as a reality star because of Portwood being charged with domestic abuse, is now set to turn things around.

In other words, because he wants to start his life afresh, he’s also decided to shift the extra weight, all 320 pounds of it, with the help of a personal trainer.

TMZ reports that Shirley started working out and a diet two weeks ago and he’s already dropped about 8 pounds. But he still has about 100 more to go.

“Gary’s been working with Rodney Razor at Stay Fit 24 in Indiana. Gary is currently clocking in at 320 lbs, but Rodney says he’d like to see that down to 220,” TMZ reports.

“We’re told Gary’s workout consists of intense cardio, including treadmill and elliptical exercises, and weight training – or as it’s known in the fitness community, ‘exercise’,” the e-zine further notes.

“Gary has been instructed to adhere to a low-carb diet, stressing a healthy breakfast and eating every 3-4 hours – or as it’s known in the health community, ‘a diet’,” TMZ writes.

The celebrity gossip website / paparazzi agency also spoke to Shirley’s trainer and he says that he’s determined to do his best to see the reality star get to his ideal weight.

“I definitely want to see him lose and I’ll do everything in my power to see that it happens, but it just takes commitment on his part,” Rodney Razor reveals.

Shirley is reportedly back now with Portwood, the two asking a judge to have a restraining order against her lifted so that they could see if their relationship would work: they have their daughter to think of.
