It might not have the same appeal and weight in the industry as, say the Oscars, but The Teen Choice Awards are very popular with the younger demographic, which is a big chunk of the market these days. So it's really controversial when the award show is accused of rigging the votes.

It's not even the first time that the rigged voting rumors pop up, last year too there were voices speaking on the matter and trying to blow the whistle on the matter. For example, YouTube star, Shane Dawson, who took to Twitter to say that “I hate to shock you but the teen choice awards are fake. They don't count your votes. And this is coming from me, a guy who's won one b4 (sic).”

To prove that the discussion was gaining momentum, the tag “#TeensDontHaveAChoiceAwards” began trending on Sunday, just as one of the participants, Cameron Dallas, revealed that he'd been announced about winning the Choice Viner category six days in advance.

Cameron took to Twitter to vent his frustration, “It’s funny how they told me I won the viner award 6 days before the voting ended and made the runners up still vote to tweet for them.” Naturally, the tweet was later deleted, but not before fans re-shared it numerous times, creating a snowball effect.

Putting their inquiring minds to the test, some One Direction fans had similar proof pointing at the 6-days-before ceremony. They noticed that One Direction wore the exact same clothes for the award shot that they had worn 6 days before, when launching their new fragrance in New York on Tuesday.

For the record, voting officially ended on Saturday at midnight, which would make it impossible for One Direction to have known 6 days in advance that they had won and even record a video of them accepting the award.

The organizers then put up a disclaimer at the end of the show in which they explained how the winner was selected, “Winners for the Teen Choice Awards were determined through voting on the Teenchoiceawards.com website. The results of the voting were tabulated electronically and confirmed by a committee of Fox representative.”

They also added the extremely important part that “Teenasaurus Rox Inc. reserves the right to choose the winner from the top four vote generators,” which basically means that they chose the winner themselves and that the voting is just a big, big scam.
