18-year-old James Witty has been arrested by the LA County Sheriff's Department in connection with an alleged theft from the Paul Walker crashed Porsche. James and another unnamed accomplice, who is out of state but is said to have been contacted and will surrender soon, apparently tried to make off with bits of the crashed car while it was being towed.

Reports say that both young men had been stalking a truck that was carrying the destroyed Porsche Carrera GT at around 10pm on Saturday night.

When the truck stopped at a red light in transit between Newhall Ranch Road and McBean Parkway, one of the men snuck up behind it, took the car's T-top roof panel and then drove away.

Unfortunately for them, the truck's driver noticed the entire maneuver and then helped detectives identify the pair. The stolen piece of the wreckage was found at a different residence in Canyon County, in northern Los Angeles, near Santa Clarita.

James Witty was arrested on suspicion of grand theft as well as tampering with evidence, and received a bail at $20,000 (€14,689). As previously mentioned, the unnamed accomplice was out of state, but has been contacted and is said to have agreed to surrender.

At this point in time, it is unclear if the two young men were trying to steal the piece of wreckage as personal souvenirs or as possible items for sale later on.

Considering the huge response from fans and the racing community Paul Walker's death has had, it's not difficult to image that such a grim reminder of the actor's untimely demise might bring in a hefty sum to whomever possessed it.

“Fast & Furious” actor Paul Walker died on Saturday (Nov. 30) in a violent car crash while in the passenger seat of a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT. The car was driven by Paul's friend and business partner Roger Rodas, who lost control and crashed into a lamp post.
