Enables larger capacities to be reached without needing more modules

The competition in the cloud server memory market seems to be increasing rapidly as more and more companies start to manufacture RDIMMs for this type of machines, the latest to enter the race being Taiwanese memory specialist Team Group.

Announced a short while ago, the company's first RDIMM (registered DIMM) memory modules will be available in capacities of 4GB, 8GB and 16GB.

Their operating speeds will be set at either 1333MHz, for the 4GB and 8GB modules, or 1066MHz for the 16GB RDIMMs, the latter being designed especially to be installed in servers running memory intensive applications.

As far as timing are concerned, these depend on the speed the memory is rated to run at, and DDR3 1066 modules have been configured to run at CL 7-7-7-21, while the faster 1333MHz parts have somewhat looser timings as they work at CL 9-9-9-24.

No matter the operating frequency or timings, all of Team Group's registered DIMMs require 1.5V to operate and are compatible the latest chipsets used in server motherboards, such as Intel's 5500 and 5520 controllers and the AMD SR5670/5690.

In order to achieve the high memory chip density required by the 16GB module, Team Group went with double-sided and dual-layered design.

According to the manufacturer the 16GB module was made under a more stringent technological standard than the industry’s norm and a more rigorous product testing.

“As a leading provider of memory storage products to the consumer market, Team Group is committed to providing the best storage, multimedia and data sharing solutions,” said a company representative.

Sadly, the Taiwanese company hasn't provided us with any information regarding the availability of these RDIMM memory modules. Pricing is also unknown at this time. All Team memory module products come with a lifetime warranty, repair and replacement services.
