Microsoft has kicked up a notch the software development kit for Team Foundation for Visual Studio 2010 RTM. According to Allen Clark, author of developer guidance, Microsoft Visual Studio Application Lifecycle Management, the change was catalyzed largely by the feedback provided by customers. It appears that input coming from Team Foundation users made it clear that they were unhappy with the SDK, and with the latest update, the Redmond company is working to rectify the problems highlighted for the developer resources.

Months ago “we had started an effort to attempt to turn that around by taking a very different approach. We're experimenting and we'll watch feedback to see what works as we continue to build this content,” Clark stated.

The Redmond company will continue to watch closely feedback coming from developers leveraging the Team Foundation SDK. In this regard, the company promises that it will enhance the software development kit in order to make sure that the customers get their needs met. Clark noted that for the time being, there are two key aspects of the Team Foundation SDK for Visual Studio 2010 overhaul.

“I've rewritten the conceptual portion of the SDK to focus on getting you started by providing critical information and some sample code. For example, Create a Console Application that Connects to Team Foundation Server has a sample that connects to TFS and lists team project collections and team projects,” he said.

In addition, the development team has worked in order to bring more clarity to the public application programing interfaces. In this sense, many of the public APIs now have comments added. “We will invest some time in raising the quality of the most critical of these reference topics. We'll watch the feedback on these topics to help us determine how to balance that effort with the effort to broaden the coverage to more APIs,” Clark promised.
