Valve has confirmed that it’s going to release a brand new update for its quite popular Team Fortress 2 online shooter, which is called Mann vs. Machine and introduces a cooperative mode that pits up to six players against hordes of robots.

Team Fortress 2 has been around for quite some time and, given its addictive first-person shooter gameplay, not to mention the extremely profitable micro-economy mechanic and its free-to-play nature, the game is still quite popular.

Now, after releasing a pretty impressive update a few months ago, alongside the Meet the Pyro short film, Valve is going to launch yet another massive add-on for the team, called Mann vs. Machine, which introduces a cooperative mode to the shooter.

“Mann vs. Machine is a new co-operative game for Team Fortress 2 that lets you and five friends wage a desperate battle to stop a lethal horde of robots from deploying a bomb in one of Mann Co.’s many strongholds. Take advantage of breaks between waves to upgrade your abilities and weapons. Survive all the waves in any of a variety of missions to earn incredible loot,” Valve said about the game.

The update is going live on August 15 and, until then, Valve is going to reveal new details about its contents.

The first pieces of information focus on the new enemies that will be introduced by the update, in the form of mechanized versions of the game’s regular classes.

“Gray Mann has built an unstoppable automaton army with a single purpose: to destroy all things Mann Co. Luckily for you, the majority of this robot legion is equipped with basic weaponry that could never level an entire building. Unluckily, they also have access to giant bombs, which they’d drag through hell if it meant dropping one in a Mann Co. bombhole. And it’s up to you to stop them. And it’s up to a small cadre of Special Robots to stop you from stopping the regular robots.”

These robots include mechanized versions of the Heavy, the Scout, the Sniper, the Demoman, or the Medic. There are also giant versions of these robots that move more slowly but have more powerful weapons.

Last but not least, as a threat to the Sentries set up by engineers, there are the so-called Sentry Busters that are practically bombs with legs that target these machines.
