14 DAY TRIAL // The first beta development milestone of Team Explorer Everywhere 2010 Service Pack 1 has been released on the Microsoft Download Center.
Non-Visual Studio developers that looking to still take advantage of Visual Studio 2010 Team Foundation Server have been able to do so with this Eclipse plug-in and cross-platform command-line client since TFS was initially released six months ago.
Microsoft offered Team Explorer Everywhere 2010 concomitantly with Visual Studio 2010 Team Foundation Server earlier this year.
With Service Pack 1, the software giant is delivering the first major upgrade to the plug-in. Most of all, Eclipse devs will be able to continue using Team Foundation Server with their development solution, as the two evolve together, revealed Brian Harry, Microsoft Technical Fellow working as the Product Unit Manager for Team Foundation Server.
“We also want to keep Team Explorer Everywhere up to date with the latest versions of Eclipse,” Harry said.
“In the past six months the team has been hard at work on an update that will address many of the remaining gaps.”
Visual Studio Team Explorer Everywhere 2010 SP1 is time bombed, as all pre-release Microsoft software. According to the Redmond company, SP1 Beta is good for a total of 90 days, after which it will expire.
Harry explains that Microsoft slapped a “go-live” license on top of the Beta. This means that devs starting to test the release will be able to leverage it in their development work.
Team Explorer Everywhere 2010 SP1 has been designed to play nice with Visual Studio 2010 Team Foundation Server, but also with older versions of TFS such as 2008 and 2005.
“The highlights of the Team Explorer Everywhere 2010 SP1 Beta will be:
•Fully localizable product.
•Full Gated check-in support for TFS 2010.
•Support for rich work item descriptions
•A bunch of bug fixes and other improvements,” Harry said.
