Taylor Swift will kick off a new tour, in support of her most recent album, the best-selling “1989,” in May this year, and she’s been keeping busy with rehearsals and other preparations. She’s also been asking around, to insure herself in case something bad happens to her on stage.

According to the latest in The National Enquirer, she just had her legs insured for $40 million (€37.7 million), thus joining a very select group of celebrities famous enough to be able to command this kind of figures.

Taylor Swift’s gams are valuable, surprisingly so

Granted, this is The National Enquirer we’re talking about, so this report is best taken with a grain of salt, but they still broke enough major stories to get the benefit of the doubt.

Moreover, ahead of every big arena tour, acts as popular as Taylor are bound to take all kinds of precautions for the worst case scenario. This doesn’t mean that Taylor will get this impressive amount just because she happens to be the owner of the legs in question (duh), but only that she won’t go bankrupt if she’s injured on stage and won’t be able to perform anymore.

In that case, the money would go to sponsors and promoters, and everyone else who has an invested interest in her completing the tour.

Still, according to a spy cited by the tab, even Taylor was taken aback by the value of her gams. “She thought her legs were possibly worth a million [€943,480]. But $40 million shocked her. She’s even a little embarrassed about it,” the tipster shares.

This figure isn’t as much as “testament” to the worth of her legs, but of her as an artist: if she’s injured and can’t perform, this is the estimated loss for the canceled dates.

Ensuring body parts, not an uncommon practice

Back in the day when the only woman with a bubble booty in showbiz was Jennifer Lopez and she was getting people raving about it to the left and right, she did a similar thing.

She might not have been the first celebrity to insure a body part for which she was famous, but she definitely got the most media attention until then. Rumor has it that the insurance on her derriere was of $27 million (€25.5 million), and if you think that this happened years ago, you understand that Taylor’s legs aren’t as valuable as you initially thought.

Julia Roberts reportedly insured her smile, and Mariah Carey her legs during her Gillette contract. Football stars Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham have also taken out insurance policies on their legs, which, again, makes complete sense.
