Taylor Swift is not only a celebrated and much appreciated singer, but also a very lovable celebrity, the kind who never forgets to help others who perhaps will never have the chance she had to break in the spotlight. To celebrate her 20th birthday, the country singer donated no less than $250,000 to schools she visited and worked with, ContactMusic informs.

The money is meant to help young and talented students get their proper chance as they will be offered, this way, the support they need to boost their creativity and turn it into something truly extraordinary. Part of the donation will also go to pay teachers’ fees and start up special programs for the same purpose as the one mentioned above.

“Taylor Swift celebrated her 20th birthday on Sunday (13 Dec. ‘09) by giving back to schools and making a $250,000 (£156,250) donation to the US education system. The country sensation threw a big party for her friends and tour crewmembers at her family home in Hendersonville, Tennessee at the weekend to mark her big day and the end of a hugely successful year, which has been topped off with a clutch of Grammy Award nominations,” ContactMusic writes.

“Something I wanted to do at the end of this amazing year and especially on my birthday was give back to something I really believe in, which is education. The schools that I went to and the amazing people I got to learn from really turned me into who I am, and I wanted to give back,” Taylor herself says as to what prompted her to make this wonderful gesture. Clearly, nothing can round up an amazing year than a gesture coming straight from the heart, she says.

As we also reported a while ago, Taylor Swift is one of the favorites at this year’s Grammy awards, which will take place on January 31, 2010. She is in the running with 8 nominations, being topped only by Beyonce, who got 10 nods in major categories. Both artists are also expected to perform.
