14 DAY TRIAL // The new, extended trailer for “New Moon,” set to drop in theaters on November 20, premiered at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, after a brief introduction from the three main stars, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart. MTV got to speak to Taylor before the award ceremony and, as it happens, the actor dished out on Pattinson’s ripped abs and some details regarding “Eclipse,” the third installment in the franchise.
As fans must already know, Lautner is not the only one to appear sans shirt in the recently released trailer, as Robert also takes his off in a scene in Italy where he’s about to expose himself to sunlight and, thus, to the world, his not-human nature. Initially, reports had it (back when they were still shooting for “New Moon”) that the British heartthrob’s ripped abs and pecs were nothing but the result of plenty of makeup and excellent lighting, but Taylor is now saying that this is actually not true.
In his honest opinion, the young actor estimates most female fans will swoon and start crying when he first appears as a wolf in the film (meaning, shirtless), but that’s not to say that Pattinson is that far behind. Speaking of a hypothetical shirt-off competition, Taylor says he’d fear Rob because he would make for pretty stiff competition. “I don’t know [who would win]. Rob, he’s getting some muscle. There’s some good competition.” the actor jokes.
“Lautner famously had to pack on the muscle to reprise his role as Jacob. So we wondered if Pattinson has been seeking advice from him on how to bulk up. ‘No, he definitely doesn’t need any pointers at all,’ Lautner joked. ‘He’s got it covered.’” MTV writes. From what fans see of Pattinson in the trailer and judging by their reaction (read: screams of joy), clearly the British teen idol has everything covered just perfectly.
In the same interview, Lautner also reveals some details on “Eclipse,” the third film in “The Twilight Saga” that went into production a month or so ago, saying that it will probably turn out to be much darker and edgier than the previous two movies in the franchise, mostly because of director David Slade.
