Today, Opera and Tata DOCOMO announced a partnership aimed at the release of a co-branded flavor of the Opera Mini mobile browser to users in India.

The new app release will be available for download from m.opera.com, providing users with fast Internet connectivity while on the go.

The mobile browser, one of the most popular such applications in the world, provides users with web browsing at speeds comparable with those experienced on desktops, Opera claims.

“Tata DOCOMO has been at the forefront of providing a superior mobile internet experience to our customers,” Rishi Mohan Malhotra, head VAS for Tata Teleservices Limited, stated.

“We are sure that with the experience enhancements like faster browsing and convenient discovery of content that Opera Mini provides, Tata DOCOMO subscribers can truly experience world-class mobile internet browsing like never before.”

Opera Mini is able to compress data by up to 90 percent before sending it to a handset, which results not only in faster delivery of content, but also in important data costs savings. This allows cost-conscious customers to surf more on the web, while paying less.

Additionally, the mobile browser arrives on devices with features such as Smart Page, Speed Dial, tabbed browsing, password manager, download manager, and Opera Link, all designed to deliver a smoother browsing experience.

“Partnering with Tata DOCOMO will help us extend Opera Mini’s reach to more users, whether they use basic phones or smartphones,” Sunil Kamath, vice president for South Asia, Opera Software, stated.

Opera Mini can be installed on a wide variety of mobile phones, Opera explains. Tata DOCOMO customers who would like to download the co-branded version of the browser will have to go to m.opera.com for that.

The page will automatically detect the operating system and model number of the device, and will provide for download the most suitable version of Opera Mini.

“According to a recent survey among mobile web users in India, which we conducted along with On Device Research, speed and ease of use were the key drivers for selecting a mobile browser, so it isn’t surprising that Opera Mini’s easy-to-use interface and speed have made it the most popular browser in India,” Sunil Kamath also said.
