The smartphone might be priced lower than Nokia Lumia 610

Chinese handset manufacturer ZTE had a pretty busy month with lots of devices announced at the Mobile World Congress 2012, back in February.

The company is trying to enter the Windows Phone smartphone market with the high-end ZTE Tania, which was released on the market last month.

ZTE is mostly known for its budget-friendly phones, but the company wants to become a more important player on the smartphone market.

This is why it decided to release both Android and Windows Phone devices. Unfortunately, its Mango-based ZTE Tania smartphone does not seem to be so popular.

For the time being, it’s unclear whether this is due to Windows Phone small market share or people simply don’t like the ZTE Tania.

Anyway, it appears that the company is willing to try its hand on Windows Phone devices again. Although we knew that ZTE is working on a Windows Phone version of Mimosa, details were a bit scarce until recently.

The folks over at WPDang claim that the next ZTE Mimosa will be powered by Microsoft’s Windows Phone Tango operating system. The Chinese company is trying to offer a cheaper version of its ZTE Tania.

Rumor has it that ZTE plans to compete with Nokia Lumia 610 in price range, so the Tango-based Mimosa might be available for under 190 EUR (250 USD).

ZTE Mimosa should feature the same hardware configuration as the Lumia 610, so expect this one to come with only 256 MB of RAM and an 800 MHz single-core processor.

No other details are available for the moment, but we can safely assume the Mimosa will sport an under-4-inch capacitive touchscreen and a 3- or 5-megapixel rear camera. Obviously, it will lack a microSD card slot for memory expansion.

The smartphone is expected to arrive in stores in late May, though an exact release date has yet to be confirmed.
