Over the weekend, singer Usher’s wife, Tameka Foster, suffered serious complications while undergoing plastic surgery in a hospital in Brazil. With Usher rushing to be by her bedside and her condition still uncertain, the couple’s publicist refused to disclose any information to the media, saying the two needed privacy to make it through these hard times. The media in Brazil, though, got a scoop on the extent of Tameka’s “injuries,” which implied cardiac and respiratory arrest.

Although a spokesperson for the Sirio-Libanes Hospital in Sao Paulo refused to comment on the condition of the patient when approached by the AFP, several local media outlets are saying that Tameka’s case was quite a scare. Apparently, she went into cardiac and respiratory arrest as she was being anesthetized for tummy liposuction, it has been revealed.

Tameka’s condition was so serious that doctors put her into an induced coma for 24 hours, reports have it, but she is now doing well and slowly recuperating. On the other hand, neither Usher’s rep nor the hospital spokesperson has revealed the kind of surgery that the 37-year-old former stylist underwent, nor the complications that occurred during it. “The family has demanded total privacy. The hospital is barred from giving any information.” the hospital spokesperson explained, confirming only that they had Tameka Foster as a patient.

Usher’s publicist echoed the same sentiment in a press statement released yesterday, asking for privacy and understanding from fans and media representatives. “Tameka Raymond [Foster] is in stable condition after suffering complications from routine surgery in Brazil. Her husband Usher is with her at the hospital. No further details will be released, and the family requests privacy at this difficult time.” the publicist stated.

Neurosurgeon Dr. Gabriel Hunt of LA’s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, who accompanied Usher to Brazil to check on Tameka, has also refused to make any comments regarding her condition. However, it seems, things are taking a turn for the better for the celebrity couple, so an announcement bearing good news should be made soon enough, it is being maintained.
